3) Governor Palin’s book will be out next week and she’s going to make lots of money. Read it and weep. Well, that’s if you can handle anything more than 140 characters.

Sarah Palin: A Victory for Common Sense and Fiscal Sanity

Congratulations to the new Governors-Elect of Virginia and New Jersey! I’d also like to offer a special word of support to the new Lieutenant Governor-Elect of New Jersey, Kim Guadagno, the first woman to hold that office.

Of course, the real victors in this election are the ordinary men and women who voted for positive change and a return to fiscal sanity. Your voices have been heard.

The race for New York’s 23rd District is not over, just postponed until 2010. The issues of this election have always centered on the economy – on the need for fiscal restraint, smaller government, and policies that encourage jobs. In 2010, these issues will be even more crucial to the electorate. I commend Doug Hoffman and all the other under-dog candidates who have the courage to put themselves out there and run against the odds.

To the tireless grassroots patriots who worked so hard in that race and to future citizen-candidates like Doug, please remember Reagan’s words of encouragement after his defeat in 1976:

Sarah Palin: It’s Imperative That We Exercise Our Right To Vote Today

“...the right which woman needed above every other, the one indeed which would secure to her all the others, was the right of suffrage.”

Susan B. Anthony used those words to describe the cause she spent her life fighting for: the right of an American woman to cast a ballot for the candidate of her choice. Because of Susan B. Anthony’s tireless efforts and the courage and dedication of countless others, millions of American women will head to the polls today to exercise their right to vote.

When we consider the sacrifices made to give us this right, there is simply no excuse not to vote.

Today, the eyes of the nation are drawn in particular to the three big elections occurring on the east coast. New Jersey and Virginia will be electing new governors, and the 23rd Congressional District of New York will be sending a new representative to Washington D.C. The choices are clear in all three races.

Palin Records Calls Urging Virginians To Vote

According to CNN, Governor Palin is making robocalls for the governor's race in Viriginia. From CNN's 'Political Ticker' blog:

Less than 48 hours before voters head to the polls to elect a new governor, several Virginians reported receiving robocalls on Sunday from the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, urging them to “vote for Sarah’s principles” on Tuesday.

“Virginia, hello, this is Sarah Palin calling to urge you to go to the polls Tuesday and vote [to share our] principles,” the former Alaska governor says in the call, which was provided to CNN by one Democrat who recorded it. “The eyes of America will be on Virginia and make no mistake about it, every vote counts. So don’t take anything for granted, vote your values on Tuesday, and urge your friends and family to vote, too.”

Meg Stapleton, a spokeswoman for Palin, confirmed the authenticity of the calls.

The Washington Post reports

Tucker Martin, a spokesman for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, said Palin's calls were not being made at the request of the campaign or the Republican Party of Virginia. He said the campaign had no firsthand knowledge of the calls.

The Post does go on to emphasize

McDonnell epeatedly and personally asked Palin for help this summer, but by late August Palin learned that the McDonnell campaign no longer wanted her assistance, Stapleton told us a few weeks ago.

Chris Daggett Admits Making Things Up

A conclusion to a story that just made me smile the entire day (I'm still smiling after the Yankees win tonight) (emphasis added).

A Daggett spokesman acknowledges that Daggett’s claim on MSNBC was incorrect.

“She never contacted us asking us to drop out,” Daggett spokesman Tom Johnson told ABC News.

Johnson said Daggett got the incorrect impression about Palin from people on his campaign bus who themselves were mistaken and relying on an unsubstantiated blog item.

“Someone wrote mistakenly on a blog that Sarah Palin asked Chris Daggett to drop out of the race,” said Johnson.

Kevin Gass, a volunteer traveling on the Daggett campaign bus, heard the incorrect Palin item, assumed that it was true and twittered about it from the Daggett campaign bus.

“I could not make this up,” tweeted Gass. “Sarah Palin just asked Chris to pull out of race. Republicans getting scared much?”

It turned out that Palin, who endorsed third party conservative Doug Hoffman over liberal Republican Dede Scozzafava in the 23rd congressional district of New York, had not called on Daggett to leave the New Jersey governor’s race. All she had done in an Oct. 27 Facebook post is urge voters to back Chris Christie, the Republican candidate, over Jon Corzine, the incumbent Democratic governor, and to give money to the Republican Governors Association.

“It seemed plausible, even though it was inaccurate, because [Rudy] Giuliani and other big Republicans have asked him to drop out,” said Johnson.

Johnson said that neither Daggett nor anyone in the campaign knew that the Palin claim was false until the former Alaska governor wrote about it on her Facebook page, prompting reporters to contact the campaign.

“We didn’t know it was inaccurate until Palin put this thing out,” said Johnson.

“It’s a big ado about nothing,” he added. “We’re getting more attention for this than for our detailed plan to cut property taxes by 25 percent.”

I still think Corzine wins this one 45-43 over Christie. James Carville will likely have a poll out tomorrow showing Corzine in the lead and I think he'd be right for the first time in awhile.

I disagree with Tommy on this one. I believe Christie will win, albeit, by a very close margin. May the best man win.

Republican Scozzafava Drops Out of New York Congressional Race. Update I, Gingrich Endorses Hoffman. Update II Huckabee Followes Palin

Republican state Assemblywoman Dierdre Scozzafava has suspended her campaign for upstate New York's 23rd Congressional District seat, giving a possible boost to Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman against Democrat Bill Owens, Fox News has confirmed.

The move comes on the heels of a new poll that showed Scozzafava had fallen behind her two competitors in a close race.

The special election is Tuesday, and political analysts believe upstate New York could be a preview of congressional races nationwide in 2010 and 2012 as Republican leaders struggle to rebuild, redefine and regain control of Washington.

The Siena College poll has Owens picking up 36 percent of the vote, while Hoffman has 35 percent. Scozzafava has 20 percent, with nine percent of voters undecided.

Let's call this one a grudging, backhanded endorsement, shall we?

It's clear that the only reason Gingrich flipped his endorsement is because Scozzafava suspended her campaign and dropped out of the race. He still holds to the delusion that Scozzafava is actually dedicated to lower taxes (she's not) and opposing the Pelosi/Reid/Obama agenda (except where it involves pro-life issues, massive government spending, support for ACORN and big labor, and pork-barrel projects as vote bribes).

Of course, Gingrich could rehabilitate himself with conservatives by hitting the news networks as hard for Hoffman as he did for Scozzafava. The election is Tuesday. Surely Gingrich, who fancies himself a leader of the conservative movement, can spare a bit of shoe leather for Doug. But will he?

Pataki Followes Palin's Lead

Former New York Gov. George Pataki endorsed Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman tonight, the clearest sign yet that even the most establishment New York Republicans now view Hoffman as having the best shot at preventing a Democrat from winning next Tuesday's special election.

Several of Pataki's former staffers are playing key roles with Republican Dede Scozzafava's campaign, and he wouldn’t be endorsing against her unless the writing was on the wall that there was no chance she could pull out a victory.

Here's Pataki’s statement:

As someone personally engaged in the way of life in the Adirondacks and Northern New York, I’m deeply concerned about the course of our nation and the outcome of the election in the 23rd Congressional District.

Simply put, we cannot afford to give another vote to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid we cannot afford another vote for higher taxes, we cannot afford another vote for government run health care and we absolutely cannot afford another vote to take away from hard working men and women the right to secret ballot.

When it comes to writing about Sarah Palin, the media seems compelled to focus on 2012 and her prospects of being the Republican presidential candidate despite the fact that it is a couple of years out.

It's something like putting her into a box that's not to be opened for another 2 ½ years. In addition to marginalizing her, it ignores the key role she's going to play in the crucial congressional elections next year when all 435 House seats and a third of the Senate seats are up for grabs.

Unlike her media critics, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fully grasps the significance of the outcome of those elections next year. Should the GOP capture control of the House in the 2010 elections, the threat to our nation's future posed by Barack Obama will be eliminated. He’ll be a lame duck for two long years.

It's apparent to me that Sarah Palin understands the pressing need for a unifying factor that will rally the voters around the Republican banner rather than around individual candidates. And I further believe that she recognizes that she herself is that unifying factor.

After all, it not her personal charm or her beauty, or her outspokenness that attracts large numbers of Americans. It is instead that the American people recognize her as unashamedly one of their number.

Jay Tea: Simple Sarah

Well, she's done it again. Sarah Palin has thrown an endorsement into that Congressional race over in New York -- and she's rejected the Republican Party candidate in favor of the Conservative Party one.

And once again, everyone's poking at tea leaves and molesting goat innards in trying to figure out just what it all means, what Palin's really up to, what signal is she sending.

Morons.

I figured out Palin a long time ago. And while understanding her doesn't always make her predictable, it does work fantastically well in hindsight.

All you have to do is listen to her.

For example, when she resigned as governor last summer, she cited the burden on her family and the unfairness to the state caused by all the bullshit ethics complaints against her. Well, let's look at how things stood when she stepped down.

At that point, she had run up about half a million dollars in legal bills, and pretty much every single complaint had been tossed. In other words, she had incurred debts equal to twice her family's net income and 40% of their net worth for absolutely nothing. And with the latest complaint going after her legal defense fund, it was shaping up to get more and more and more expensive, with no relief in sight. The agenda of her opponents was clear: to use Alaska's flawed ethics laws (the "flaw" being that no one foresaw a cabal filing an endless chain of worthless complaints purely to drive up the target's legal bills) to bankrupt her and her family.

So she took what she saw as the only solution: she resigned. And once she decided that, she saw no reason to drag matters out.

Now, in the case of New York, let's look at it in the simplest possible light. The race there is being treated as more and more important every day. There are three candidates -- a Democrat, a rather liberal Republican, and a suitably conservative Conservative. So Palin thought about it and decided that the Conservative could use all the help he could get -- so she threw him her backing.

So, what are the potential ulterior motives here for Palin?

Well, for one, should the Conservative win, he'll be viewed as immensely important -- and beholden to her. So that's a plus for her.

The Republican is quite cozy with the national Republican leadership, and she has little use for them. The national party cheerfully threw her to the wolves during her vice-presidential run, and a lot of the people are still kicking her. Giving them a good smacking around by helping beat their candidate with someone they can't stand could be quite satisfying.

And as noted, this race is getting a lot of attention. By involving herself in it, she's getting her name out there and keeping people thinking and talking about her.

But all those are incidental. They're frosting on the cake. The real reason is most likely the one she stated -- she thinks that the Conservative is the best candidate for the job.

Period.

She's precisely what she says, and what she appears to be: a 40-something wife and mother of five (and grandmother of one); fiercely devoted to her family, her faith, and her nation; of mediocre educational credentials but potent common sense; an indomitable will coupled with a healthy sense of pragmatism and decided lack of ego; a politician who entered and exited public service for the best reasons and with the best intent; and a force to be reckoned with in our political future.

Sarah Palin: East Coast Races Impact All Americans

As I stand here in a high school gymnasium watching freshmen girls' basketball games, I'm struck by the sight of America's future right in front of me - these tenacious young women full of energy and intensity. I want them to realize every opportunity this great, free nation can provide.

There are big political races on the East Coast that are coming down to the wire - the results of which will impact policies and political actions that touch all of us in every state. Like other independent Americans, I don’t always see eye-to-eye with Republican political committees, so when I tell you that the Republican Governors Association has my complete support and confidence in its campaign efforts back East, know that I really mean it. The RGA is helping lead the conservative comeback beginning this year, and its involvement in the East Coast races is significant. Let's consider the governor's race in New Jersey. The state has the highest tax burden in the country and the incumbent Democrat governor has only added to the economic burden. He eliminated property tax rebates for middle class homeowners while the sales tax increased. Altogether, taxes on the people in the region have increased by billions of dollars. It’s no surprise that New Jersey has the highest unemployment rate in the region! Thankfully, there is an alternative. Residents there will be better off under an administration that understands the benefits that result when workers are allowed to keep more of what they earn. Watch New Jersey's economy come alive under new leadership that will put government back on the side of the people! Chris Christie promises this new leadership.

Fortunately, New Jersey's Democrat governor is being held accountable with the RGA spending $7 million in the New York and Philadelphia media markets telling the truth about a liberal administrative record while highlighting New Jersey's tax-hiking ways and reminding voters there is an alternative! Then in Virginia, there is a clear difference between Republican Bob McDonnell and his liberal opponent. Republican Bob McDonnell is fighting for cheaper American energy and lower taxes, while his opponent wants to raise taxes and, amazingly, even bragged about having more earmarks than any other state legislator. Bob McDonnell promises to fight for Virginia's hard working families, and he opposes some heavy-handed union leadership efforts that could ultimately hurt employers and employees. The RGA has aired $6 million of TV ads exposing the liberal candidate’s record. Palin's Power: Sarah's Win/Win

..... Daily Kos polling data had Hoffman a distant third, garnering about about 23% of the vote to Owens 35% with Scozzafava in the middle with 30%.

Around the same time, Sarah Palin began endorsing Hoffman publicly. Big GOP party players like Newt Gingrich endorsed Scozzafava, and the conservative buzz on the internet slowly started to build in Hoffman's favor.

Today the polls are quiet different. Real Clear Politics has Hoffman at 31%, Owens at 27%, and Scozzafava at 20%.

However this turns out, "Going Rogue" and sticking to principle will pay off huge dividends for Sarah Palin and strengthen American for the better.
