Sarah Palin: Keep Your Powder Dry

As you probably have heard, the AP snagged a copy of my memoir, Going Rogue, before its Tuesday release. And as is expected, the AP and a number of subsequent media outlets are erroneously reporting the contents of the book. Keep your powder dry, read the book, and enjoy it! Lots of great stories about my family, Alaska, and the incredible honor it was to run alongside Senator John McCain.

We can't wait to hit the road and meet so many on the book tour! See you in Michigan first...

Sarah Palin: "Going Rogue" Book Tour Dates Through Thanksgiving

Via Facebook

Here are some details of the upcoming book tour. I’m starting in Michigan and you’ll understand why when you read the book. Last year, I made a promise to the good people of Michigan that I would be back, and now I’m keeping that promise. (Michigan is near and dear to my family’s heart! Our eldest son, Track, lived with a great host family there during his hockey days.)

From Michigan, the “Going Rogue” tour will cover as much of the country as possible. I’ve decided to stop in cities that are not usually included in a typical book tour. For instance, I’m looking forward to meeting our honorable men in women in uniform and their families at a Fort Bragg book signing, and to reconnecting with friends my family made last year on the campaign trail in different book signing venues.

We have a tight schedule, but I’m working with the publisher to allow possibilities of stopping at a few unannounced places, too.

I’ll Twitter information when the tour starts, so I’ll post our progress from the road. You can follow on Twitter at SarahPalinUSA.

Below are dates, times, and locations for the first part of the tour – this schedule brings us up to Thanksgiving, where I’ll get to connect with family in Washington state for the holiday. Stay tuned for our post-Thanksgiving schedule coming soon.

Please contact each venue for more information. Can’t wait to see you soon!

Governor Palin's Book Tour to Begin November 18

"Going Rougue: An American Life" to be released November 17 2009
From AP
Oprah Winfrey is only the beginning for Sarah Palin's book tour.

Starting Nov. 18, the day after Palin's book "Going Rogue" is released and two days after she is interviewed by Winfrey, the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate will make appearances around the country, from Grand Rapids, Mich., to Dallas to Rochester, N.Y.

HarperCollins spokeswoman Tina Andreadis said Wednesday that the tour will run through at least Dec. 6.
ABC Reports
Barbara Walters will sit down with former Vice Presidential candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for a five-part series of ABC News interviews to begin airing on "Good Morning America" Nov. 17, the morning her highly anticipated book "Going Rogue: An American Life" is released.

The wide-ranging interview will cover her public life as Governor of Alaska and her Vice Presidential run in 2008, as well as her private life. This is Walters' first interview with the political figure.

Portions of the interview are scheduled to air on "Nightline"on Nov. 17 and again on "Good Morning America" on Nov. 18 and on "20/20" on Nov. 20 at 10 p.m. ET.

Interview excerpts will also air across ABC News' platforms, including ABC News Radio, ABC News NOW, ABCNEWS.com, and ABC NewsOne.

Sarah Palin: Road Trip! Book Tour Announcement

Via Facebook

I am very, very excited about the upcoming road trip for my book. It will be an honor to meet as many of you as possible!

“Going Rogue” publisher HarperCollins is working hard to schedule book signings across the nation, and we’ll be announcing the locations in the next day or two. I’ve decided to travel to cities outside of the typical book tour venues, and I hope to cover as much of the country as I can.

We’re in the process of arranging interviews with local and national media. An interview with Oprah Winfrey is already scheduled, and I’m also hoping to have the opportunity to talk with Bill O’Reilly, Barbara Walters, Sean Hannity, Greta Van Susteren, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Dennis Miller, Tammy Bruce, and others, including local Alaska personalities Bob & Mark and Eddie Burke. (Variety is the spice of life!)

Can’t wait to hit the road. Can’t wait to see you!

Media Matters? Media Malpractice.

As previously reported, sales of Governor Palin’s soon-to-be-released memoir, Going Rogue, went through the roof as soon as the release date was announced. The book's publisher, HarperCollins, pegging that Palin's book would be a bestseller ordered a whopping 1.5 million copies for the first printing. It seems, however, that some in the media, in their effort to continue to downplay its success, would do anything to distort the book's sales.

The left-wing site Media Matters, used a marketing email from Newsmax where you can get the book for “free,” to make the following statement:

Ever wonder how so many right-wing books become "bestsellers"? This may help explain it:

[....]

Normally you have to wait until the public displays pretty strong disinterest in a book before you can pick up the hardcover for $4.97. But thanks to Richard Scaife's right-wing Newsmax.com, you can get Sarah Palin's book for that low price -- and it hasn't even been released yet.

Just keep this in mind if the media starts breathlessly reporting Palin's strong sales numbers.

What Media Matters fails to point out, is that you can only get the book for that price - or free - if you take it along with a one-year subscription of Newsmax Magazine at a total cost of $49.95. This is clearly noted in the email Newsmax sent out:

This book retails for almost $29 — but you can get it FREE with shipping included with a one-year subscription to Newsmax magazine!

[....]

Order Below Today.

Yes, rush me a copy of Sarah Palin's Going Rogue as soon as it is available — plus Newsmax magazine's special report Sarah Palin and "The Newer Feminism" FREE — a value of more than $39 with shipping included — along with my one-year subscription to Newsmax magazine. My total cost will be just $49.95 with automatic renewal. If you are current Newsmax magazine subscriber, your subscription will be extended an additional 12 months.

While Media Matters displays an image of the Newsmax email, they conveniently fail to activate the links that take you to the Newsmax order page, where full details of those offers are available.

Somehow I doubt that anyone would spend $49 for the Newsmax subscription just to get Going Rogue for free when you can buy the book from other retailers for less. Well, unless you were really waiting for an opportunity to get Newsmax.

It’s Not About The Truth, Its Downright Murder!

By Sheya

The best seller status of Governor Palin’s upcoming book, “Going Rogue,” should come as no surprise. Since the announcement of her VP selection, Palin has been under constant attack by the far left and the media. She’s been called every name in the book. The image of the everyday hockey mom has been tarnished with deception. Whether you love or hate Sarah Palin, and no matter if you believe her book to be the truth or not, this is your chance to at least get to hear her side of the story in her own words, unfiltered by the media. After all, we still live in a country where we hear both the prosecution and the defense prior to sentencing.

So when I heard the news that the new parody book, with a title and cover similar to Governor Palin’s book, is to be released on the same day as Palin’s, I was scratching my head to figure out why.

One may suspect that the purpose of this book was to debunk Governor Palin’s arguments or dispute her facts. But, that’s not possible because, as far as I’m aware, other than a few in the inner circle, no one has read the book. There is simply no way the editors of the “evil twin” would know what to debunk. It also can’t be about money since, for it to be about money, their book must be at least somewhat plausible which, again, means they would have had to read Palin’s book first.

As much as those people would like to convince us that Governor Palin is ignorant, dumb, irrelevant and politically dead, they know the truth. The truth is that Governor Palin has overwhelmingly spot-on political instincts. Every move she has made so far, including her resignation, has worked out well for her. The truth is that Governor Palin is a true conservative with traditional conservative and social values, values more than half the country abides by. The truth is that Governor Palin has the star power that other politicians would kill for. And, the truth is that more Americans identify with Governor Palin than with any other political figure in the country, hence, the strong feelings toward the governor.

The truth is also that, like her or not, everyone is interested in her story. As the bestsellers lists have already proven, everyone is going to buy the book, making the governor financially stable.

So, when the early release of the book was announced, her detractors went into panic mode. What if people read the book? What if she makes a strong case? What if people believe her? What if she makes a lot of money? What if the truth gets out? This they can’t allow to happen: no way, no how. All the gloves have come off. This book needs to be destroyed, dead on arrival.

Destroy this woman. Destroy her financially, destroy her politically and destroy her family. In other words, kill her off. And if only one person mistakenly buys the parody book, it would be one less book she sells, one less person who gets the truth.

For these sorry folks, and the ankle biters they represent, it’s not about the truth. It’s not about allowing governor Palin to make her case. For them it’s all about taking out a private citizen, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, for no other reason than because she disagrees with them politically.

It’s not about the truth; it’s downright murder!

Buyer Beware! Of Bogus Palin Book

Josh Painter at texas4palin reports

Start-up publisher OR Books has announced plans to publish Going Rouge: Sarah Palin An American Nightmare, a collection of essays about the maverick Republican with a title — and cover design — remarkably similar to Palin’s upcoming memoir. What’s more, OR’s paperback tome will be released on Nov. 17, the same day that Palin’s own Going Rogue: An American Life hits shelves...
Calling the title and cover of the bogus book "remarkably similar" is an understatement:

The idea is to trick unsuspecting book buyers who think they are purchasing Sarah's book into buying the ersatz version instead. And what will the too-casual shopper be getting for his or her money?
Going Rouge is compiled by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, two top editors of the left-leaning weekly "The Nation," and includes essays by "Nation" regulars like Katrina vanden Heuvel, Naomi Klein, and Katha Pollitt. It’s the first release from OR Books, a fledgling outfit founded earlier this year by publishing veterans John Oakes and Colin Robinson that "embraces progressive change in politics, culture and the way we do business," according to its website.
In this case "progressive change" means deceiving shoppers into spending their money on a collection of articles which are attack pieces on Sarah Palin, her family and her supporters. It's one big loony leftist lie and the lowest sort of smear job, as we have come to expect from the hateful hinterlands of the far left. This should come as no surprise, because liberals are always trying to deceive the public into adopting their failed politics. Why should their books be any different?

The bogus book will be a paperback, one way to tell the difference -- at least until the paperback version of Sarah Palin's real book is released. The best way, of course, to be sure you are getting the real deal is to read the cover carefully. As with all things from the land of liberals, caveat emptor -- let the buyer beware.

Palin's Facebook Strategy

Chris Cillizza writes in The Washington Post
Since resigning as governor of Alaska in early July, Sarah Palin has used the social networking tool Facebook almost exclusively to convey her thoughts on the issues of the day to her supporters and the media.

The latest missive came late Saturday night when Palin penned a note on Facebook on the passage of President Obama's health care bill through the Senate Finance Committee.

.....

"Facebook itself is a true testament to American ingenuity and the entrepreneurial spirit; it will remain one of many great sources through which the governor will communicate directly with Americans," said Meg Stapleton, a spokeswoman for Palin.

Several operatives who count themselves as friends of the former governor offered their own thoughts on the "why" behind Palin's attraction to the medium.

Fred Malek, a major Republican donor, suggested that for a politician with very little staff, Facebook's ease of use may well appeal to Palin. "Facebook has benefit of simplicity," he added.

John Coale, a Democratic trial attorney and personal friend of the governor's suggested three reasons for her Facebook focus: "1. No editors 2. Beats Twitter 3. She has a zillion Facebook friends."

As of press time, Palin's Facebook site had nearly 930,000 supporters and each of her posts typically draw thousands of comments on what she has written, comments that are broadly supportive of her. By way of comparison, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) has 82,000 Facebook supporters while former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee (R) has 121,000.

That sort of reach coupled with the direct contact between politician and supporter that Facebook offers makes what Palin is doing potentially powerful[.]
